Key Questions About Baby Showers

Giving a baby shower for close friends, relatives and loved ones is always a cherished experience for everyone you invite. However, there are some potential situations where planning a baby shower can be a stressful experience. In order to help you avoid some of these things, there are some basic guidelines that need to be answered. Below are some routinely asked questions and things to consider:

Shower Hosting - So...who's supposed to host? It is often common for a wide range of friends or relatives to host your shower. Often you see groups of friends and relatives combining their efforts to organize the shower including sisters, mothers, friends and other relatives can (and should) be involved. This helps to make the planning go quickly and have your baby shower invitations made on time.

When to Have a Shower - two or three months before the due date is a pretty good suggestion to use for the actual event. You'll definitely want to start the planning 3 months or so prior to the actual shower date to accommodate the plans and travel arrangements for those you invited. Planning ahead also gives time to establish a baby shower registry.

Shower Invitations - There are a wide range of options for your baby shower invites from Designer Stationery to Handmade to homemade. Getting these made after the dates have been nailed down is likely the first thing you'll want to do.

Welcome Parties - These are showers that are thrown after the baby is born. Though only seen occasionally, these types of parties usually happen if the mom to be is out of the country or incapacitated in some way before having the baby. These often take place one to three months after the baby is born.

Shower Location - Most normal baby showers are held at the home of the host but can really be held anywhere. Restaurants, parks, hotels, churches and private rooms are all options for your shower. Some of the things to consider when throwing your party at an "alternative" place are of course, costs and the potential for bad weather.

Surprise Baby Showers - If you're looking for something a bit less "traditional", a surprise baby shower can add some additional excitement. It is wise to keep in mind however if you are planning a surprise event, that it can be a bit much for some moms-to-be and especially those who are having to deal with difficult pregnancies.

Invite the Guys? - Though not normally invited at baby showers, men are being invited more and more. This will likely change the atmosphere that you might find at a traditional shower but, depending on the group, can be a fun way to go. Some prefer to have the boys arrive for only the latter portion of the shower after the girls have had time to celebrate with the mom to be.
